Acquires UK Web Developer Site Corp. (Nasdaq: INTM), an e-Business and Internet technology network, announced this week the acquisition of United Kingdom-based Web Developers Journal, adding to its offering of resources for Web design professionals.

Although terms of the acquisition have not yet been disclosed, the move will supplement’s Web Developer Channel, which includes BrowserWatch, JavaBoutique, Javascriptsource, StreamingMediaWorld, and WebReference.

An Indy Resource For Web Developers?

“The Web Developer’s Journal is one of the last independent sites dedicated to Web development professionals and complements our collection of Web developer resources,” commented Alan M. Meckler, chairman and CEO of “Web developers are an essential audience for marketers to reach and we’re thrilled to add this site to our robust collection of Web developer resources.”

Created by Bruce, Charlie and Kief Morris, the Web Developer’s Journal offers everything from book and software reviews to highlights such as “Wacky HTML” and “Ask the Java Weenie” sections. The Web site also features “Windows Weenie,” “Amazing HTML,” “Mastering HTML,” a Web tools download area and numerous e-commerce links, including affiliate and software store information as well as an e-solutions area.

A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur’s Court?

Westport, Connecticut-based adds the UK-based Web Developer’s Journal to their list of resources provided. This includes a network of Web sites, e-mail discussion lists and newsletters and online discussion forums. The company describes itself as a provider of global real-time news and information resources for Internet industry and Internet technology professionals.

Free Stuff and The Challenge of the Information Age

Amidst a seemingly chaotic spate of Internet-related announcements recently issued in the UK, Hemmington Scott disclosed that it would — along with UUNET, and MCI WorldCom — offer free Internet access and create a business portal. The company claims to be the first major content owner to become an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

The new portal and ISP, The Business ISP, will provide broker forecasts, financial data on the 2300 UK-listed and AIM companies. Dial-up accounts, 20MB of free Web space, up to 5 e-mail accounts and local call charges anywhere in the UK are also part of the deal.

Free Internet access began to gain a degree of popularity and world media attention earlier this year. Numerous companies began jumping into an increasingly popular game in the UK that seemed to have fallen flat in the US.

“By giving away literally thousands of pounds worth of information absolutely free, and providing free Internet access, we are showing our commitment to delivering real time value to our ISP customers,” commented Peter Scott, chairman of Hemmington Scott. “We are ready to meet the challenge of the new information age.”
