Integrated Information Systems (IIS) announced the release of a new web-based order management system that automates e-commerce order processing. By reducing the back-office steps involved with processing online sales, IIS hopes the new system will help e-commerce sites reduce costs, and improve profitability.

IIS teamed up with Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) to produce the Internet based application. Originally designed for use by SkyMall, the system is now commercially available. It is targeted toward larger online businesses that need to maximize efficiency and lower the overhead cost of each order.

According to IIS, the application streamlines order processing by eliminating the need for merchants to re-enter and transfer data between servers. It allows remote browser-based administration, and integrates back-office procedures for order entry, customer service and systems management.

Jim Garvey, CEO and president of IIS describes the benefits to online sellers. "By automating the functions needed to complete e-commerce transactions into one application, we are significantly reducing the transactional costs and expensive rework." Garvey continues, "Reducing the per order transaction cost is a major factor in producing overall profits."
