Stock Watch: Vignette Climbs After Quark Alliance

Shares of Vignette (Nasdaq: VIGN), which offers Internet relationship management software and services, climbed nearly 10 percent on Wednesday, rising 6-11/16 to 74-1/2, after announcing a deal to create a new service that will empower publishers. Vignette and publishing software company Quark will integrate their software to create a print-to-Web publishing solution.

This a pretty significant deal when you consider that Quark has a customer base of more than two million publishers. Many of these customers are big organizations that are scrambling to get on the Web. Quark’s customers include major newspapers, magazines and journalism schools. It’s a good bet that many of them will be using this new service to put their content online.
