Stock Watch: Veritas Rises on E-Venture With Oracle, Sun

Veritas Software Corp. (Nasdaq: VRTS) gained 9 5/8 to close at 93 1/4 Tuesday after the company announced an e-business alliance with Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL) and Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW).

The companies said they will jointly develop software and systems to help companies “rapidly build more robust e-business infrastructures.” The venture includes a testing and education center and a customer-support center. The companies said they have tested two products, which should be available by the end of May, and plan to have as many as five more by the end of the year. They are also working on a consulting venture.

The news did not help Oracle, which fell 5 3/16 to 62 5/8, or Sun, which lost 8 to 71 7/8 amid a broad decline in technology shares.
