On Friday, Vitria Technology (Nasdaq: VITR), which manufactures software that helps companies keep track of and fulfill e-commerce orders, put an exclamation point on a week that saw many high-flying initial public offerings take off. After strong showings by Internet IPOs such as PurchasePro.com, Garden.com and Luminant Worldwide, Vitria recorded the strongest opening of the week.
The IPO priced at $16, above the revised range of $13 to $15 and well above the original range of $10 to $12. Shares of Vitria more than tripled in their first day of trading, soaring 32-1/4 to 48-1/4, a gain of more than 201.5 percent.
It looks like the hot IPO market is going to stay busy this week. Among the IPOs on deck are E.piphany, which develops customer-interaction software, direct marketing company Cybergold and upscale e-commerce retailer Ashford.com.
