SportsLine.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLN) gained 3 to 17 3/4 Wednesday after the Internet sports media company said it will make baseball games available over Palm handheld devices.
Through an agreement with Major League Baseball, the company will provide a service that allows baseball fans to get real-time scores, “graphical representation” of games showing which players are on the field, line scores, and batter and pitcher statistics. The information can be accessed through Major League Baseball’s Web site.
“No other sport lends itself to statistics in quite the way baseball does,” said SportsLine Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael Levy. “Passionate baseball fans want immediate access to more than just scores — they’re also looking for at bats, runs, hits, runs batted in and pitching ERAs. Now, by accessing our wireless content through our trademarked Baseball Live application, fans can have their fill of information even when they’re away from their computer.”
