Stock Watch: Oracle Wireless Collaboration Lifts Vicinity

Vicinity Corp. (Nasdaq: VCNT) gained 2 5/16 to close at 15 3/4 Wednesday after the company announced a wireless Internet partnership with Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL).

Vicinity said its BrandFinder software will be made available on phones, pagers and handheld computers served by OracleMobile. BrandFinder lets users look up top brands in a number of categories, including hotels, clothing and autos, then find driving directions to the closest provider of the preferred brand.

Vicinity plans to expand BrandFinder’s features to allow for more specific searches, such as McDonald’s restaurants with playgrounds.

“With the growing demand for practical and easy to use wireless applications, we feel that OracleMobile users will find the Vicinity BrandFinder service a useful on-the-go tool,” said Oracle CEO Denise Lahey.
