Stock Watch: New Offerings Boost Buy.com

Buy.com (Nasdaq: BUYX) rose 23/32 Thursday to 5 7/8 after the e-tailer said it added four new software publishers to its licensing lineup.

In addition to the entire line of Microsoft products, programs from Symantec, Computer Associates, Executive Software and Trend Micro will be available through the company’s licensing program, resulting in “hundreds of additional titles,” Buy.com said.

Buy.com, an online superstore, also announced it would be an “in-box content provider” for Palm Inc., meaning users of that company’s handheld computers will be able to buy products and track orders on the Buy.com Web site. “Buy.com is increasing its presence within the wireless sector,” said Chief Executive Officer Greg Hawkins.

Buy.com offers items ranging from computer hardware to golf items to travel-booking services. The company is based in Aliso Viejo, California.
