Nuance Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: NUAN) doubled on its first day of trading, closing at 33 15/16. The Menlo Park, California-based maker of voice-recognition software sold 4.5 million shares through a group led by Goldman, Sachs & Company.
Such companies as American Airlines, Charles Schwab and Home Shopping Network use the software to make telecommunications and Internet services accessible by phone.
