The recent shot-through-a-cannon climbs of initial public offerings such as Foundry Networks, Alteon Websystems and Kana Communications are proof the Internet IPO market is as healthy as ever, and the market should stay strong this week.
A handful of high-profile IPOs are expected to offer for trading this week, and one of the hottest should be online drugstore PlanetRx.com. This IPO has a hard-to-beat underwriting team that includes Goldman Sachs, BancBoston Robertson Stephens and Hambrecht & Quist. It will be interesting to see if this offering can perform as well as the offering of competitor Drugstore.com, which gained 179 percent on its first day of trading in July.
Another IPO that should sizzle is Calico Commerce, which develops e-commerce software. This IPO has been postponed several times in recent weeks and is expected to see a nice premium when it finally opens for trading.
Other IPOs to watch this week include Webvan (also known as the $4 billion online grocer that currently serves just one market) and financial data provider PCQuote.com.
