Stock Watch: Ask Jeeves Offers Answers To E-Commerce Questions

Shares of Ask Jeeves, which offers online question answering services for consumers and businesses, climbed nearly 17 percent on Tuesday, gaining 5-3/4 to 40-1/4 after the company announced new deals with office supplies retailer Office Depot and housewares retailer Williams-Sonoma. Both companies will now rely on Ask Jeeves’ Corporate Question Answering Service to help streamline online shopping for its customers.

Office Depot customers will be able to ask questions such as “How do I set up a home office?” Williams-Sonoma’s customers will be able to ask questions such as “How do I use Williams-Sonoma’s online services to choose a gift from the wedding and gift registry?” Ask Jeeves’ Corporate Question Answering Service customers also include AltaVista, BellSouth, Compaq, Datek, Dell Computer, E*TRADE, Iomega, Micron, Oxygen Media, Toshiba and WebTV.
