Talk.com (Nasdaq: TALK) rose 2 5/16 to 12 3/8 Tuesday after the company and America Online (NYSE: AOL) agreed to continue an exclusive marketing alliance through 2001.
Talk.com, which provides telecommunications services through the Internet, will continue as the exclusive provider of long-distance services to AOL subscribers. Talk.com Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gabe Battista said the company will “accelerate” marketing partnerships “to complement the high-volume AOL channel.”
Talk.com bills customers monthly, and billing records are available online in real time. The company plans to acquire Access One Communications, allowing it to provide local and long-distance services in the southeast United States. It also has received accreditation from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to become a registrar of domain names.
