E-Commerce Stock Watch: “Monica’s Story” Fuels E-Commerce

Barnes & Noble announced Thursday that Monica Lewinsky’s book is selling like mad. “Monica’s Story” was selling at a rate of more than 2.25 copies per minute, as of 3 p.m. ET on Thursday. Also notable was that Barnes and Noble was selling both paper and electronic copies of the book.

In fact, “Monica’s Story” is the first-ever book that was released simultaneously in paper and electronic form simultaneously, and Barnesandnoble.com is the only retailer that has the electronic version, which can be downloaded as soon as the credit-card transaction is processed.

The future of books could see bigger margins for booksellers if electronic books catch on. Barnes & Noble is helping change the way people read and taking advantage of the desire for instant gratification. There already were numerous good reasons to take a look at this stock, including a likely IPO this year, a new deal with the Go2Net Network, and an exclusive alliance with AOL. Now there’s another solid reason.
