Nearly three-quarters of IT managers are planning to deploy the Windows XP Service Pack 2 update to their systems, research shows.

Some 63 percent of UK IT managers are looking to install SP2 before the end of the year, according to a survey conducted by LanDesk Software.

The much-delayed SP2 finally arrived last week and Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is now sending the updates out to home users.

The software giant has released the update to improve the security of XP.

One of the most significant enhancements of SP2 is the firewall setting will default to on, rather than previously when it was off.

Service Pack 2 was originally due in June but suffered a series of delays including problems interfacing with as many as 50 applications.
