First it was the online brokers that suffered numerous service outages this year. Then on Monday, it was eBay, (Nasdaq: EBAY) which was nonfunctional for several hours during the morning and afternoon. The service glitch angered customers, who lashed out on message boards at competing auction services.
This is obviously the worst time for eBay to have this kind of problem. Now that the company is facing increased pressure from Amazon.com's newly launched auction service, service and dependability are as crucial as ever. Shares of eBay were down 17-1/2 to 190-5/8 on Monday.
