Outpost.com (Nasdaq: COOL) fell 1/8 to 1 15/16 Friday after president Robert A. Bowman resigned to head the Internet and media operations of Major League Baseball.
Katherine N. Vick, who has been chief financial officer at the Kent, Connecticut-based company, is replacing Bowman effective immediately. Bowman will remain on the board of directors.
Outpost.com said Paul Williams III, senior vice president of finance, will take over the position of CFO.
Bowman's title at Major League Baseball is president and chief executive officer of MLB Advanced Media, a separately incorporated business that encompasses the MLB.com Web site and the 30 team Internet sites.
Bowman, who said he is leaving only because of his love of baseball, called Vick "preeminently qualified" to serve as president. "She has been intimately involved in the daily operation of the company and in setting our strategic direction," he said.
Chairman Darryl Peck said the management transition is a logical step for the company. "We have made great strides in moving Outpost.com toward profitability and have positioned the company to achieve that goal next year," he said. "Our core business is healthy, our e-business services relationships are strong and growing, and we have strengthened the B2B segment of our business."
Vick, 48, has been with the company since 1997.
Outpost.com, which sells consumer technology products over the Internet,
recently announced "click-and-mortar" partnerships with Tweeter Home
Entertainment Group, Brookstone and Wolf Camera. Outpost.com's e-business
services division provides site design, order management and other services
to businesses.
Outpost.com's loss for the second quarter ended August 31st narrowed to 23 cents per share from 36 cents in the year-earlier quarter, as sales rose 97 percent to US$72.3 million. The company also goes by the name Cyberian Outpost.
