Stock Watch: Red Hat Jumps After Intel Embraces Linux


Red Hat, Inc. (Nasdaq: RHAT) gained 2 5/16 to 34 3/16 Thursday, following reports that Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) is integrating the Linux operating system into its new Dot.Station Internet appliance.

The device, essentially a stripped-down computer, is aimed at consumers who want only Web access and e-mail.

Earlier this week, Red Hat, which makes software for Linux, got a boost when Dell Computer Corp. agreed to work with the company to market the Windows competitor.
