Erotic E-tailer Sets Sights on American Consumers

Australia-based erotic e-tailer AdultShop.com Ltd. has revealed it is in negotiations to acquire a number of U.S. online businesses -- the first stage of its planned expansion into the United States.

The online retailer, which is listed on stock exchanges in Australia and Germany, will sell adult products like sex toys, videos and lingerie from its Web site.

AdultShop.com's managing director Malcolm Day said he had begun negotiations to acquire a "number of leading, established and profitable U.S.-based 'e-tailers' of adult products."

An American Home

The acquisitions will provide AdultShop.com with a base in the U.S., access to e-commerce expertise, local fulfillment and existing customers. The company will establish offices there in the next few months.

In Australia, AdultShop.com purchased the bricks-and-mortar adult store Barbarellas, giving it access to a fulfillment business that will be able to deliver products to customers buying over the Internet.
