Seagate Shores Up HDD Operations With Samsung Deal April 19, 2011
Seagate will take over Samsung's hard disk drive operations as part of an expansion of the companies' strategic relationship announced Tuesday. The HDD deal is one of multiple transactions totaling $1.375 billion, which will be paid by Seagate to Samsung, half in stock and half in cash. This could be Seagate's return fire at rival Western Digital, which is acquiring Hitachi's disk drive business.

HP Serves Up Windows on a Slate October 22, 2010
HP on Friday launched the HP Slate 500, a tablet PC aimed at the enterprise. Priced at $799, the Slate has a 3MP still camera and a VGA webcam and can Windows 7 Professional 32. The HP Slate 500 is based in a 1.8 GHz Intel Atom Processor and weighs 1.5 pounds in the basic configuration. HP's new tablet has an Intel Atom Z540 processor with a 512 KB L2 cache and a 533 MHz front-side bus.

Intel Doubles Down on Netbook Processors August 23, 2010
Intel on Monday announced that 12 new netbooks based on its dual-core mobile Intel Atom processors, code-named "Pine Trail," are now available. These are available from eight vendors, including Acer, Asus, Lenovo and Toshiba. Other vendors will announce their new netbooks running the N550 soon, Intel said. Netbooks built around the Atom N550 are aimed at heavy online use and at gamers.

Intel Makes Strategic Mobile Move With McAfee Buy August 19, 2010
Chipmaker Intel on Thursday announced that it will acquire computer security vendor McAfee for about $7.8 billion. The deal will create a behemoth that may improve the semiconductor's position in the burgeoning mobile and cloud computing fields. Ballmer: The Windows 7 Tablet Will Have Its Day July 30, 2010
Microsoft's tablet project is a top priority for the company, CEO Steve Baller told financial analysts at a presentation Thursday. However, he remained coy on the details. Redmond is working with several OEM partners, and the new tablet will run Windows, Ballmer said. Several vendors, including Toshiba and Archos, already offer tablets running Windows CE or Windows 7.
