iPhone 5 Owners Are EU's Big Data Consumers January 14, 2013
A study has tabbed iPhone 5 users as Europe's biggest data-gobblers, consuming -- on average -- more than four times more data than people still using the iPhone 3G. The study, released by data analysis firm Arieso, said that a single iPhone 5 user is equal to about four iPhone 3G users.

Nokia Gets Its Mojo Working January 11, 2013
Nokia posted a banner Q4 on Thursday, fueled in large part by brisk sales of the Lumia smartphone. The news was a pleasant surprise to shareholders as the company had forecast a loss as recently as October. Of the total 86.3 million devices sold, 4.4 million units were from the Lumia line, a significant uptick from the 2.9 million Lumias sold in Q3.

Over the past several months, it has been steadily revealing information about the OS and the devices that will run it. FCC Aims to Expand WiFi Highway January 10, 2013
The FCC plans to open up a new batch of wireless spectrum to bring faster and more reliable access to public WiFi hotspots, its chairman announced Wednesday during a talk at the 2013 CES, although it will have to overcome some obstacles. The commission seeks to free up 195 Mhz of spectrum in the 5 GHz band, the largest block of unlicensed spectrum to be made free for WiFi expansion since 2003.

The Pebble Is a Stone's Throw From Delivery January 10, 2013
Pebble is poised to start shipping its smartwatch, company founder Eric Migicovsky announced at CES on Wednesday. The device -- a wristwatch that connects wirelessly with Android smartphones and the iPhone -- was a sensation when it was featured on Kickstarter early last year, raising more than $10 million. The Pebble watch is in mass production now and will start shipping on Jan. 23.

Dish Makes Bid to Run Away With Clearwire January 09, 2013
Dish Network has made a multifaceted offer to acquire all or part of Clearwire, potentially complicating Sprint's recent proposal to acquire the rest of the wireless network operator. Sprint, which is already Clearwire's majority stakeholder, last month announced a proposal to buy the remaining 49 percent of Clearwire. The agreement is still subject to regulatory approval.

Samsung on Tuesday predicted record earnings for the fourth quarter as its mobile device line, led by the popular Galaxy S III, continued to dominate the smartphone market. In an earnings preview, the company estimated its operating profit will jump to about $8.3 billion for the quarter -- an 88.8 percent increase from the same period last year -- narrowly beating analyst expectations.

AT&T Makes Video-Streaming Splash January 07, 2013
AT&T has announced a new service to compete with such video-on-demand offerings as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. The service is aimed at its U-verse customers, offering unlimited access to AT&T's library of some 1,500 movies from a TV, computer or wireless device. It will cost $5 a month, a price that is competitive with, if not undercutting, its rivals.

Facebook Messenger Not Just for Text Messages Anymore January 04, 2013
Facebook has added a recording feature to its Messenger mobile app, allowing mobile users to send each other voice messages without using their voice minutes. In addition to the recorded message options, iPhone users in Canada are able to make voice calls via Facebook's mobile app. Users can tap the "i" button in the app and hit "Free Call" in the updated app to call a contact.

Judge Knocks Some Wind Out of Apple's App Store Sails January 04, 2013
