Ruling Snuffs Psystar's Mac Dreams November 16, 2009
Apple has won a summary judgment in its copyright infringement case against Psystar. The Miami-based startup turned heads last year with its offer of a $400 Mac clone -- that is, non-Apple hardware running the Mac OS X Leopard operating system. Several claims in the case remain to be briefed and tried if it doesn't settle first, but it likely will.

I'm at IFA as I write this, and in Europe, green clearly does matter. Here, they even have a viable Green Party, but in the U.S., I sometimes wonder whether we care. Sales of the Apple iPhone grew faster than any other smartphone on the market in 2008, according to new data from Gartner. Customers bought 11.4 million iPhones last year, up 245.7 percent compared to the 3.3 million iPhones bought in 2007. Apple's share of the global smartphone market grew to 8.2 percent, up from 2.7 percent in 2007.

Analyst: November Mac Sales Off Nearly 40 Percent December 16, 2008
Apple is having a rough week. On Sunday, Goldman Sachs downgraded its stock to "neutral" from "buy," citing a poor selling environment. In fact, Apple's desktop sales dropped 38 percent in November, according to research firm NPD Group. Non-Apple desktop sales dropped just 15 percent, it said.

A Florida-based company that makes Mac clones has upped the ante in its ongoing copyright litigation against Apple. In its latest claim in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, Psystar claims that Apple has injected code into a version of its Mac OS X software that makes it impossible for unauthorized third-party computers to run the operating system.
