Lord of the Rings fans now have the opportunity to cast themselves as their favorite Hobbit, Elf, Dwarf or Man. Game software makers Turbine and Midway announced Tuesday the release of "The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar." The game is the first massively-multiplayer online game based on J.R.R. Tolkien's popular trilogy set in the mythical realm Middle-earth. The game, in development for more than four years, lets LoTR fans experience the perils and adventures of Middle-earth.

>>"LoTRO" has been hotly anticipated by Tolkien fans, Rob Enderle, principal analyst at Enderle Group, told TechNewsWorld. He expects the release to be tremendous.<<
No. It's been hotly participated by fans of the LotR movies. Not so much by Tolkien fans. The movies diverge from Tolkien's works in so many ways they're not the same thing at all.
>>The game, Enderle explained, stays very close to Tolkien's vision,<<
Please, are you TRYING to make me choke? The game stays very close to Jackson's vision. They didn't even manage to make Bag End like Tolkien describes it, and most of the rest is even more off.
I played in the beta. It's a fun game. Definitely worth giving a shot if you're looking for something new. But a Tolkien game it is not.
