The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) last week targeted another
file-sharing service, Audiogalaxy, with its copyright protection campaign. The association
filed a lawsuit against the Internet company, alleging that it encouraged users to copy
and distribute copyrighted works and that its filtering efforts were minimal. The RIAA
claims the service was repeatedly warned that it was diving deep into copyright
infringement waters, but Audiogalaxy kept taking the plunge anyway.

I don't quite understand how the RIAA can even think that Audiogalaxy does not protect copyrighted music...Many times I have wanted to download a particular tune only to find that it is unavailable due to copyright laws...
Audiogalaxy is doing an excellent job in providing the means to share certain MP3s and, in my opinion, they are WAY above board on this one...The investigators for the RIAA must be blind or at least be trying to railroad this excellent source of MP3s...Maybe the RIAA should look at the big picture here: How much more in music sales has been developed because of Audiogalaxy? I know that because I have been lucky enough to find a newer hit song, I have gone out and purchased the CD at a local store...I doubt I am an isolated case...
Audiogalaxy should file a counter suit for the slamming they are receiving from the RIAA.

Maybe if all record industry associations embraced this practise and even contributed to both the service providers' content and the promotion of the facility (obviously in a way which would not compromise sales, i.e. limiting quality to 128k), they would expose more people to thier product hence promoting the sale of high-quality, original, copyrighted media.
