The seeds of the trends now taking hold in e-commerce were planted in the industry's
early days, long before the shakeout began. But only now are they starting to point the
way clearly toward the future of e-commerce. One trend is a growing legion of niche firms
operating on shoestring budgets. On the other hand, Giga Information Group analyst Andrew
Bartels told the E-Commerce Times, "Mid-tier sites, the ones in between, are having
trouble making it."

Given the intense competitive nature of e-tailing, these trends will become a part of reality soon. Online customer care and service industry will assist e-tailers to grab visitors' attention, and convert a visitor into customer there and then. It seems pretty interesting to see how e-tailers will show rest of the indsutries a way to care online customers.

Like any major paradigm shift, I have always advocated that solid business models and results are not going to be realized overnight. The bloodbath is moved to "customercentric", value-based competition.
I am curious to see what effect if any the "anti telemarketing" movement and the resulting do-not-call list will have on online commerce.
