What if there's a second Internet bubble and no one wants to get inside? It could happen. In fact, the number of people who wince, shudder or burst into tears when someone mentions the idea of going to work for a pure-play Web company is growing dramatically.

Not so long ago, lots of people thought that this was truly a New Economy. That it would chug along famously through thick and through thin. But for many of us, this turned out to be a myth. The question is, are there any believers left out there?

There have been many technology waves over the last 20 years, including PCs, application software and the internet. The internet was the greatest bubble of them all. Remember the famous valley saying, "you will know the pioneers by the arrows in their back?" Others will follow, avoid the early mistakes and cash in. Let's not lose hope in the profit making potential of the internet. "Once bitten, twice shy," for you, maybe, but not for me.

This is one article that sure sparked my interest. I am currently in an online business management school that recommended this article as part of a reading assignment. I have been sucked in to the internet for over the last 9 years. Many hours have been spent watching , reading, and playing wastefully but happily. There are things that I never new even existed. The technology age is coming upon us, but all too fast. Many people are not as intrigued with the new innovations as the ones who grew up with it are. I look at my father, who'd rather sit there and watch tv than get involved with society in a technological advancement. My mother, on the other hand, has grown quite accustomed to long hours of mind numbing absorption of sometimes mindless facts. Internet is the wave of our future. With thousands of money hungry business people bombarding our waves with multi-billion dollar business ventures, no wonder new concepts are never able to catch on. The people of the dot com era have become saturated with all these stores and half-baked ideas that they'd rather enjoy a snotty store clerk or a push against the wall. I know I sometimes would. But I have become a fatality to the technology age and am unfortunately here to stay to wallow in the waves of the information technology drama that has been stormed up.

Just as there was an overreaction to the promise of the "New Economy" so there is one for the death of it. The "New Economy" is not pure play ecommerce companies but leveraging the power of the internet for commerce. In that regard, the "New Economy" is here and here to stay. It's not pure play vs brick and mortar but the best combination to compete. It was silly to think that a company could exist without profit but that does not discount business models that use the internet to enhance customer satisfaction, increase revenue, and reduce operational expenses. The new economy is here to stay - people are just getting smarter when it comes to risk versus reward.
