See Full StoryMonster.com parent TMP Worldwide said Friday it will acquire competitor HotJobs in a
US$460 million deal that brings the top two Internet job search sites under the same roof.
The deal, which has already been endorsed by both boards of directors, is expected to
close sometime in the fourth quarter, assuming it receives shareholder
and regulatory approval.
I can't imagine how this acquisition by monster.com is going to do anything useful for job seekers. These folks who think that online job hunting is anything other than a pain in the a** are kidding themselves. Monster.com advertises hundreds of thousands of jobs, but when one actually starts searching, one quickly learns that the vast majority of the postions are duplicates, are out-of-date, or simply head-hunters looking for easy ways to look for upcoming or current vacancies. Online employment processes have a long, long way to go.
