I am struggling to get a small site on the internet - I will provide a service that people will need to order. Do I need a business license?? Thanks
Is it the law for your business license to be posted in your business for all to see? Or can you just have it on hand?
Thanks,

Depends on what country you are based (or would like the company to be based).

The business is based in my home, in California. License necessary?
The official California Web site has a page describing what industries require licensing in the state. See: http://appserv1.dca.ca.gov/wllpub/plsql/wllquery$.startup
Also, if you are selling online and delivering product to consumers in California (the state where you reside), you probably need a retail license -- which is just a fancy way for signing up to collect sales tax...
Thanks for Bus. Lic. info - I ended up calling the state, and finding I DO need a license. Case closed!
Depends on the business. If you are selling drugs over the internet, you need a pharmacist's license. If you're selling hotpants, you probably don't. Depends on your state/State, the type of business, etc.
