AOL email problems
Posted by: Justin 2001-03-23 14:39:43
Anyone know what the deal is with AOL's email problem... we run a daily devotional email with nearly 16,000 subscribers. 3,170 are AOL users, and none of them have received the emails since March 9th.

I've written them twice; the first time, I received a general "Thank you for your question, this message will be forwarded to the correct department" message. Second time - no reply.

For some unknown and undocumented reason, AOL began discarding messages from our mail storage and mailing list server at some point in the recent past. Basically, our server is told by their server that the mail is being delivered successfully (so it doesn't bounce), but it is silently discarded by their servers.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Is native advertising good for journalism?
Yes -- It's a reasonable source of additional revenue for media outlets to support their traditional editorial efforts.
Yes -- Paid-for articles can contain useful information, but readers might bypass them if they look too much like ads.
Maybe -- But only if it's clearly labeled as paid-for content.
No -- I don't trust any information from media outlets that cloak paid-for content as objective journalism.
No -- Native advertising is confusing and devious, and it threatens the fabric of traditional journalism.
I Don't Know -- I don't understand what native advertising is.
