Eastman Kodak said Thursday it is suing Apple and BlackBerry maker Research In Motion over technology related to digital cameras in their iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones. Kodak filed a complaint before the U.S. International Trade Commission alleging the iPhone, Apple's hottest gadget, and Research In Motion's camera-enabled BlackBerry devices infringe on a Kodak patent covering technology for previewing photos. Kodak is asking the federal agency that oversees trade disputes to bar Apple and RIM from shipping the phones. [More...]

Digital entertainment company RealNetworks said Wednesday that its founder stepped down as chief executive officer, but will remain chairman. In a statement, Founder Rob Glaser, 47, said that after 16 years he decided it was time for him to step away from day-to-day operations. RealNetworks spokesperson Bill Hankes said Glaser plans to focus on philanthropic and political interests. [More...]

The discovery of a series of cyberattacks from China targeting Google and other companies has prompted the Internet giant to threaten that it may pull out of the country. Recent "highly sophisticated and targeted" attacks "have led us to conclude that we should review the feasibility of our business operations in China," wrote SVP David Drummond on the company blog. A startup developer of technology that helps publishers better connect sales with affiliate marketers has closed on seed funding from First Round Capital, Google Ventures, and such individual investors as LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman. Alcatel-Lucent's Bell Labs on Monday launched Green Touch, a project aimed at making communications networks 1,000 times more more energy-efficient. The project's founding members include service providers such as AT&T; research labs such as the MIT Research Lab for Electronics and Bell Labs; and government and nonprofit research institutions such as the French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control.
